Michael
Michael Woodward is the co-founder of TRACTION, a trans-led community service organization in Washington state. In addition to his current role as Senior Curriculum Writer at the SEIU 775 Benefits Group, Michael has provided trans and queer inclusion consulting services to healthcare and corporate leaders nationwide for nearly two decades.
He is the former director of the Gender Odyssey conference and was the Trans Community Health Manager at Borrego Health in California. Michael served on the City of Tucson Commission on GLBT Issues for five years and is a founding member of The University of Arizona President’s LGBT Advisory Council, where he helped to develop the nation’s first trans-inclusive public university restroom access policy.
He has published myriad books, articles, and blogs, most notably contributing the title essay to the transmasculine anthology, “Manning Up: Transsexual Men on Finding Brotherhood, Family, and Themselves” (Transgress Press, 2014).
By night, Michael is an accomplished vocalist and former lead singer of the band Too Much Information. He’s also an openly transgender aqua fitness coach in Seattle, where he lives with his nonbinary spouse, Carolyn.
